Common software version distinctions and identification:
Alpha: An internal testing version, only with a preliminary structure, usually with many issues.
Beta: A version released for external testing, mostly complete, but still has a lot of bugs!
RC: Short for Release Candidate, meaning the countdown to the official release. This version is considered to have completed all features, with most bugs fixed, and no further modifications to functionality.
RTM: The final version, Release To Manufacture, meaning the last version released to manufacturers.
Final: The version before official release or the official version, determined by the developer.
Official Version: The version officially released.
Retail Version: Similar to the official version, this is the version sold commercially.
Major Update Version: Such as SP1, SP2, SP3, etc.
There are also versions based on features:
Personal: Personal version, with fewer features than the standard version.
Standard: Standard version.
Professional: Professional version, usually with more features than the standard version.
Enterprise or Corporate: Enterprise version.
Developer: Developer version.
Ultimate: Flagship version (the highest version).
